A Protected Product: Marc brandy for direct consumption and vintage marc brandies, from the distillation of the refuse of pressed grapes (marc) in Galicia. |
Origin: Both the distillation of the marc and the maturing of the resulting brandy, if this takes place, must be carried out within the geographical area of the Denomination, that is, the Autonomous Community of Galicia. There are 9 marc brandy-producing subzones, with their own specialities: Ribeiro, Valdeorras, Rías Baixas, Ribeira Sacra, Val do Miño-Orense, Val do Monterrei, Betanzos, Ulla and Portomarín. |
Characteristics: The protected product comes from the distillation of the marcs or refuse of the grape pressing carried out during the vinification process in the various subzones: they are preserved and distilled according to the directives of the Denomination Regulations, which aim to combine the traditional methods of elaboration with modern technological processes, which makes for the production of a top-class product. The alcohol content of marc brandy ranges from 37.5 to 50 degrees; with an intense and both delicate and harmonious aroma. Marc brandies have a clear and transparent whitish colour, whilst the vintage brandies are amberish and clear. | ![]() |
