The production area comprises the Valley of Monterrey within the municipalities of Verín, Monterrey, Oimbra y Castrelo del Valle, in the southeast of the province of Orense on the Portuguese border.
It is the driest region in Galicia. The climate is oceanic-continental, which explains both the ample rainfall and the sufficient sunshine.

The vineyards stretch over the mountain sides of the valleys of the river Támega and its tributaries and occupy almost 3.000 hectares.

The most characteristic varieties of vine in this viticultural area are: Verdello, Dona Branca, Monstruosa y Verdello Louro as far as white wines are concerned, and Bastardo, Tinta Fina, Mencía y Arauxa for red wines.

The white wines of the Valley of Monterrey are light, aromatic, yellow, golden or straw-coloured, with an alcohol content of 11 approximately.

Production Area

The red wines are purplish, aromatic and fruity, light and have a perfect alcohol/acid balance and an alcohol content which is somewhat lower than in the white wines.
